Handmade Japanese Zelkova Burl Wood Mechanical Pencil 0.5mm Natural Wood Silver (Edo Period)

This pen is made from a keyaki burl, which was used in the construction of the South Town Magistrate's Office during the Edo period.

The South Town Magistrate's Office was a government office that oversaw the machi-bugyō (town magistrates), who were officials of the Edo shogunate responsible for urban administration, justice, and police. The site of the office is located in Yurakucho, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo.

In the Demon Slayer movie, it is depicted as the place where Akaza (Hakuji) was interrogated.

・The shape is designed to be easy to hold, with the widest part slightly closer to the nib.

・The pen has been sanded with progressively finer sandpaper, up to 600 grit. This gives it a moderate sheen, allowing you to enjoy the natural texture and scent of the wood.

・The surface has been carefully cut to ensure there are no imperfections.

・The finish uses Kinu Oil. The main ingredient is rice-derived, tasteless, odorless, and gentle on the skin.

・The sanding is done alternately vertically and horizontally to make the sanding marks less noticeable.

Rare because it can only be obtained from limited parts of the tree, such as the trunk and roots.
The causes of burl formation include damage to the tree from insect infestation, injury, disease, or typhoons, which cause abnormal cell proliferation during the repair process, as well as genetic factors.
Various patterns appear, such as swirls, ripple patterns, and eye-like grains.
