One of the few standard shirts that Yamauchi proposes throughout the year.
With a double-layered construction that lines all parts with smooth cotton cupra, the stitching is all on the inside to allow you to feel the texture of the fabric.
The fabric's dry appearance and random wrinkles, along with the design, give it a certain Japanese feel, making it a Yamauchi-like item.
---Outer Fabric Description---
Shiojuku processed cotton linen (Omi region)
The thin Omi-produced cotton linen, so thin that you can see your hand through it when held up to the back of the fabric, undergoes strong shiojuku processing, causing the weave to tighten intensely and the fabric to shrink by about 30% in both directions.
The random wrinkles and dry surface that appear throughout the fabric during shrinkage give it a somewhat washi paper-like appearance.
Not all fabrics will have the same appearance after shiojuku processing, as the finish depends on various conditions such as the yarn, weave, and dyeing method. After countless tests, we've found a fabric that doesn't have wrinkles that are too strong or too weak, and that consistently achieves the same texture.
Yamauchi's designs begin with textiles, but we aim for something deeper that makes you want to pick it up and wear it again. It may seem like a slight change at first glance, but we value that well-balanced sense of refinement in our craftsmanship.
This fabric is one of the essential textiles for Yamauchi, constantly reminding us of that feeling.
---Dyeing Description---
Persimmon tannin dyeing (Okayama Prefecture)
Persimmon tannin dyeing is a dyeing method that has been practiced in Japan since ancient times.
Unripe green persimmons are harvested, crushed, and pressed to obtain a liquid, which is aged for many years to create a tannin solution. The fabric is then dyed by directly immersing it in this solution.
It boasts high antiseptic, insect-repellent, and waterproof properties, making it an effective dyeing method, especially in the humid Japanese summers, similar to sumi (ink) dyeing.
It is characterized by the color gradually deepening over time, allowing you to enjoy the color changes as the years pass.
