Up for sale is an Old Japanese Cherry Bark Wooden 3-Drawer Small Chest Tansu Sewing Haribako Box.
The size is 11" (W) x 8" (H) x 8" (D). Comes with 3 drawers with brass handles. Overall great vintage condition. Some age-related surface scratches might exist. There is one piece of the cherry bark (about a quarter of inch) missing. See the last picture right in the middle, but it blends in the background pretty well and not very noticeable.
The base is made of wood, which is covered with very thin and fine Japanese cherry bark panels. Cherry bark craftsmanship originates from Akita prefecture and looks back on more than 200 years of history.
Cherry bark, particularly Japanese cherry bark used in crafts, is expensive due to a combination of limited supply, the skill required to work with it, and its status as a premium material. Wild cherry bark, used medicinally, is also valued for its unique properties and historical significance, contributing to its cost.
