Helman Céramique was founded by Belgian architect Célestin Joseph Helman (1863-1929) & was a significant Art Nouveau ceramic tile manufacturer in Brussels renowned for high-quality decorative tiles used in interiors & facades. After Helman's death the company evolved into modernist styles before closing in 1958.
This lot is a pair of majolica border tiles with an Art Nouveau sinuous scroll of stylized emerald green leaves on a mint green background with an olive green border. They are in very good condition considering their age with light crazing, a few flea bites on the fronts & a divot on the back corner of one of the tiles which can't be seen from the front (all shown in close-ups). The tiles are still vibrant with saturated colors - it's unclear if they were ever used.. 3"x6"x3/8".
