Where do the best Emeralds in the world come from? If you ask the experts they will all tell you Colombia. The most famous mine for producing gem quality Emeralds is the Muzo Mine, Colombia.
True Emeralds are extremely rare. They are members of the Beryl family and require chromium and vanadium to be present to be considered a true Emerald. This is what gives the Emerald its beautiful enchanting special hue of green color that seperates its color from that of a Green Beryl. Any Beryl that is green in color without the presence of chromium and/or vanadium is a green beryl. When it comes to true Emeralds only a few places on Earth are known to produce them. The best of which is Colombia.
This particular gemstone was mined in 1924 at the Muzo mine.
