This is an unused French-type safari helmet released by the USMC (United States Marine Corps).

・This is a durable and lightweight sun helmet made to MIL specifications, with a water-repellent cotton-based cover over a compressed wood pulp shell. It has been a traditional item used by the US military since World War II, with almost no change in shape, and is still in use today.

・The safari helmet (also known as a pith helmet) is a helmet-shaped sun helmet (or explorer's hat) that is said to have originated in the 19th century when the British army stationed in India used it to protect their heads from direct sunlight. The term "pith helmet" comes from the use of pith (the core) of Sola (a plant) from India as the core material. It is characterized by a wide brim, a chin strap that can be raised when not needed, and a surface covered with cotton cloth with ventilation holes. The current ones are made of compressed pulp, so strictly speaking, "pith" is not used, but it is still known as a "pith helmet."

・This item is an American fiber helmet designed in the early 1930s as a military safari helmet, and a World War II model was made for the US-ARMY (US Army) in the 1940s.
