Vintage Chinese Porcelain Figurines on Koi Fish Playing Cymbols and Trumpet.

These expressive, highly colored porcelain 1940s -era figurines are absolutely stunning.

Deeply symbolic, the magnificently costumed, dramatically coiffed figures stand on beautifully modeled, deep burnt orange gourds. Gourds have long represented protection and good fortune in the Chinese culture. The peach ( in a fascinating shade of mauve) carried by one of the boys is a well-known immortality symbol. I’m sure the gold tray laden with delicacies has meaning as well, but I am not familiar with its significance. ( If anyone is, please feel free to share - I have learned so much from my eBay customers!)
The pieces, which were traditional in high-end mid-century homes ( “Asía Modern” was a popular décor style), are in excellent used condition. The designs are bright and clear; the gold trim remarkably intact.
